The Cape Barren 650 is a good alternative to a Cape Sable if you’re willing to trade a little performance for a roomier bag. Its hooded rectangular design uses the same top-of-the range fillings and fabrics to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep in temperatures down to -2°C (men) or 2°C (women). This level of performance, along with the low weight and small packed size, makes the Cape Barren 650 a good choice both for backpacking in cool climates and summer camping in mountain regions. The 3D-Polarsoft insulation is topped up by a layer of X-Static that, through its silver content, reflects radiated heat to keep you cooler in summer yet warmer in winter (when it reflects body heat back into the sleeping bag). Advanced features such as the 3-D thermal collar and insulating zipper baffle help minimise heat loss and prevent cold spots. The DryTouch fabric used for the lining and chin protector has superior ‘moisture moving’ qualities to ensure next-to-skin comfort. The full-length, anti-snag, 2-way zipper allows you to ventilate the foot area on warm nights and facilitates adding a second sleeping bag to make a roomy double.
